Changing alternator belt....tool needed?

Post by MattGS » Sun Jul 08, 2012 8:25 am

I bought my second BMW a month or so ago, a 2007 R1200GS, and am new to the forum.

I am getting ready to do the 24k service on the bike and apparently need to change the alternator belt. My manual says I need a special tool to do this.

Has anyone here done this either with or without the tool? Do I really need this tool?

Any help is appreciated.

If you look online there are some demonstrations of doing it with careful use of a screwdriver. Basically you walk the belt onto the lower pulley.
