BBQ Judges Needed

Post by Chuck » Mon Feb 21, 2005 10:50 am

We have been approached by former BRB Steve Boston to provide a judge and bikes to display at the fundraiser for the Staunton Talking Book Library. Steve is on the board of the library which provides books on tape for vision impaired (and those impaired for other reasons who are unable to read) at no cost. One of the sources of income for the library is a Barbecue Cookoff held at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds each June. Groups and individuals compete for trophies at the cookoff. Any volunteers to eat BBQ?

This might also be a good destination for a ride. Some of the competitors give free samples, some sell it, and there will be a vendor selling barbecue, sodas, and beer.

For us, it depends which weekend in June. I went to their website and something's really wrong there. But if it works out, we could probably bring the R51/3 and the /5 as interesting older bikes. Maybe if we get a press demo we can come up with an R1200RT or ST. As for judging... if it isn't a Beemer I won't know much about it. Custom Harleys wouldn't have a chance!

Still looking for a BBQ Judge. Here are the specifics from Steve Boston:

I just wanted to check back with you. I’m not sure how much information I gave you before, but the Cookoff will be on Saturday, June 18. It will start around 10:00 am and end around 5:00 pm. The judge you designate should be there for that time, unless the judges change their plans. If so, they will let him/her know after the morning begins. From what I have been told, there are judges for different classes, and they judge at different times. I was informed that all judges should meet on Friday night (June 17) but I will try to see if we can’t get out of that. Thanks again.

The date conflicts with Camp Nite at Bluegrass and the /5 rally.

The latest from Steve Boston is that a bike display would be nice -- he can reserve a hard surface area, even if no judge is available. I told him about the conflict with Camp Night at Blue Grass.
