Nate Kern Wins Four National Championships

Mainline BMW of Devon, PA and race pilot Nate Kern snagged four national championships in October’s Race of Champions. This annual event held at Daytona International Speedway grids the winners of each region around the country against each other. In each race, the R1200S won in commanding fashion, defeating some of the best riders in the country. The victory is all the more impressive since the bike is virtually stock.

Additionally, for the second consecutive season, Main Line held onto the #1 plate by winning the overall CCS Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Championship. Within those overall #1 championships Nate won nine class championships in total. Five were in the Mid Atlantic region, including the ultra competitive Unlimited Superbike and Unlimited Supersport Championships aboard the K1200R PowerCup bike. Four additional championships were in the Southeast region as well.

Time flies. So did we. After 30 years, BMW motorcycles win at Daytona.

They say history repeats itself – and at the inaugural SunTrust Moto ST eight-hour endurance race at Daytona International Speedway on October 21st that is exactly what happened. Thanks to a brilliant effort by San Jose BMW Motorcycles team, victory was achieved in dramatic, nail-biting fashion as the team brought home the checkered flag. Not since Steve McLaughlin won the very first AMA Superbike race back in 1976 on an R 90 S, had a BMW team won at Daytona in an AMA sanctioned race. And this stunning victory by San Jose BMW was equally historic.

For 172 laps, Brian Parriott, Nate Kern, and Stephan Mertens led the race, averaging 106 mph. As darkness fell and with an hour and a half left in the contest, the Suzuki team had battled back to second place, and launched a furious charge to try and catch San Jose BMW, but their efforts fell short. Trailing by thirty seconds with twenty-two minutes to go, the Suzuki team made a final pit stop for a splash-and-go hit of fuel, but they were unable to reach Parriott, who took the checkered flag under the speedway lights with one hand raised in triumph.
