New Airhead Beemer Alternator upgrade

Post by hank pfister » Mon Aug 08, 2005 8:01 pm

Anton, I would be interested in your take on this alternator upgrade. I found out about it by way of a machinist friend in Meadows of Dan who is milling the adaptors neccessary to make the unit fit on airhead beemers.

450 watts, 32 amps. Sounds good. Replaces rotor, stator, diode board, and regulator. $440.

I don't really have a take on it because I'm not a real electronics guy, but Oak is getting a set for evaluation and he will post to the Airlist when he has an opinion. I'll pass it on here. The main concern seems to be that this is a permanent magnet unit, so there is always electricity to get rid of somehow, often as heat. We'll see what happens.
