August '06 breakfast...

Post by AntonLargiader » Fri Jul 21, 2006 6:52 am

[idea about Stuart's Draft deleted]

I just took a tour of the Draft. Nothing useful from what I could see. The place I'd been told about seemed more like a rustic Tastee-Freez than a diner.

I did, however, hear that there's an Amish place in Harrisonburg near the fairgrounds. Sounds like a smorgasbord type of place. It's in the right area; anyone want to check it out?

The place near Harrisonburg is on Rt 11 south of town at the turnoff for Bridgewater. It's called Eavers and I'm not sure they are open for breakfast on Sunday. They start lunch at something like 11-11:30. It's a buffet style deal and used to be great.

Not sure I can make the August ride but the T-Bone Tooter in downtown Churchville is a nice little country place. They even have four tables under an awning on the front porch. On occassions when I have gotten a late start for breakfast in Monterey at a spot behind the courthouse I have stopped for breakfast in Churchville. I last ate there for dinner on Saturday three weeks ago. It's one of my favorite places.

Anton and I discussed options and came up with the Otter Creek Restaurant at Milepost 60.8 on the BRP (Just north of the James River Visitor Center at US 501).

Sunday August 6
Eat at 9:00 AM
Ride at ~10:00 AM

Should be cooler at the higher elevation on the BRP. As before I'll post an invitation to the Twin Valley Riders. Last time they greatly outnumbered the BRBs!

There are two places on US 11 near the Rockingham County Fairgrounds. Ever's is the Amish/Mennonite style place. The other is the Village Inn that has a weekday breakfast buffet, but I'm not sure about Sundays. The buffet is fairly complete, but not extensive. Good basic breakfast stuff. It would be a good starting point for a trip out US 33 to West Virginia and a shot through Moyers Gap to Highland County and beyond.
