RIP Al Smith

I got a note from Finlay that Al died February 20th after a two year fight with mesothelioma. Finlay and Al sought Meredith and I out (as local BMW experts!) in about 2006. They'd been riding for a while, most recently on Harleys, and just weren't into the culture they found. It was like we were bei...

Re: June breakfast

Fardowners does have the Bloody Mary thing going for it, but it's also kind of like having breakfast in a bar. Excessively air conditioned, as I remember.

Dick Stewart is going to meet me here at ten, and we're going to head to the Blue Toad.

June breakfast

I know it's late, but is anyone game to meet for breakfast at the Blue Toad? Now, their website says they open at 11:00 on Sunday, I don't remember us meeting so late previously. If we wanted to meet earlier we could go somewhere else. Let's see who's interested in 11:00 there and who wants to meet ...

Re: August 26 breakfast?

Dick's up 29N and I'm in town, so we could meet at the ex Rock Store. We had a decent breakfast with Bloody Mary at Fardowner's last time, or we could do that again (if the BM was any good - Dick? I seem to remember it took a while to drink!). Or head for the Blue Toad which seemed to be popular. We...

August 26 breakfast?

Thinking of taking a ride with Dick Stewart, head out for breakfast somewhere (if he can make it). Anyone else interested? Probably ride a bit, have a beer somewhere, be home early afternoon. Nothing too serious.

If we aren't having a baby that day, I guess.

Re: Changing alternator belt....tool needed?

If you look online there are some demonstrations of doing it with careful use of a screwdriver. Basically you walk the belt onto the lower pulley.

Was there a July breakfast?

I never saw anything, but we did have the storm damage to contend with. I spent a few hours Sunday morning helping a friend clear his father's driveway of six or seven fallen trees. Oh, and we had the HEAT to contend with, too! First weekend in August isn't looking that great for me either. Wow, it'...

Re: Blue Ridge Bike Fest

Cool. I stayed home, finished taxes and completed a wiring project that's been hanging over my head for a year or three. I have to say, that was all time well spent. However, I would like to get down to see the new dealership at some point.

Re: 1st Sun March 4th

Much better turnout than I expected. Nine of us? Butch, Joe, Bob, Cliff, Kevin, Troy, Dick, Randy, I... did I forget anyone? Turns out Stoney Creek was closed, so we headed up to The Blue Toad for brunch, which was pretty darned good. I wonder if Stoney Creek is just getting too much pressure from t...

Re: First Sun breakfast Feb 5th

The problem with those places is that the roads are crap during the winter. I rode in that direction in November and there was already gravel everywhere from a previous snow, and I had to wash the salt off once I got home.

Harvey Kaplan

I just got word that he died, presumably yesterday or this morning but I'm not sure. Peaceful and pain-free, no other details.

The funeral will be private but there is a memorial service in planned for April, in Forest Lakes.
